uEFI System Update Package (SUP) Installation and Operation Instructions Intel highly recommends reading this document in its entirety before performing the system update. Verifying that your system meets the documented requirements will ensure a successful update and provide the most reliable system functionality after the update has completed. Released: 2023-06-06 ************************************************************************** This update package includes the following production level system software updates and update utilities: System BIOS - 01.04.0030 ME Firmware - 04.04.04.028 BMC Firmware - 4.16 CPLD - 3.8 DCPMM - 2.2.0.1516 sysfwupdt.efi - 16.0.9 --- Supported Products --- Intel(R) Server Board M70KLP Family Contact Intel for production hardware support requirements Important NOTES: - This is production FW package, bugs and unexpected behaviors could be observed, if you have any issue please contact your Intel representative. - All updates provided in this package are installed using the embedded uEFI operating environment only. - Do not modify any of the script files. The scripts as written will provide the most reliable update experience. - If for any reason the System BIOS, BMC, CPLD, or DCPMM FW need to be re-installed after the initial update has been performed, the package does include standalone script files that can be run individually. These files include: BIOS: KlpUpdBios.nsh BMC: KlpUpdBmc.nsh CPLD: KlpUpdCpld.nsh DCPMM: KlpUpdDcpmm.nsh Do NOT use these files until the system has been updated initially using the startup.nsh file. ************************************************************************** SYSTEM SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS ************************************************************************** To update the system software stack to the versions included in this update package, the system software stack currently installed on the target server system MUST meet the following, or else the update may fail: - BIOS Firmware - Production version SE5C620.86B.01.04.0022 or later - BMC Firmware - Production version 4.05 or later - CPLD Firmware - Production version 3.8 or later For pre-production hardware and software support requirements, contact Intel for details. ************************************************************************** IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR THE UPDATE PROCEDURE ************************************************************************** - After enter uEFI Shell, startup.nsh should be automatically executed. It updates CPLD, BIOS, DCPMM FW, BMC in order. - Due to the new structure of FW using PFR, system will be automatically shut down and become inoperable for about 3~10 min after the update process of BIOS and BMC. Do not plug off AC power during this time. -This system update also has two reboots. The BIOS Security Version SVN is incremented in this release, and it is necessary to update BIOS recovery region in this release. Settings won’t be lost, but one additional reboot after the SUP update will be conducted automatically. Please allow additional time for the second reboot to occur. After the second update, all system firmware will be up to date. ************************************************************************** GENERAL INSTALLATION PROCEDURE ************************************************************************** 1. Unzip the contents of the update package and copy all files to the root directory of a removable media (USB flash drive) 2. Insert the USB flash drive to any available USB port on the system to be updated 3. Power on the server and load the uEFI shell 4. Accesses the USB flash drive and begisn the automatic update process via the Startup.nsh script. 5. Updates CPLD's staging region if the current version is different than target version. 6. Updates BIOS staging region if the current version is different than target version. 7. SUT will reset and enter T-1 mode to update CPLD and BIOS to active region. 8. SUP boots up automatically, loads EFI shell and runs startup.nsh again. 9. Checks to see if DCPMM is installed or not; if installed, then starts DCPMM firmware update to each DCPMM device in serial. 10. Starts update to the BMC's staging region if the current version is different than target version. The SUT will reset after updating BMC. 11. Firmware update is complete. Verifying Updates: 01. After the final update has completed successfully, reboot the system 02. During POST, hit the Key when prompted to access the BIOS Setup Utility 03. From the BIOS Setup Utility main menu, hit the key to load BIOS defaults 04. Hit the key to Save Changes and Exit the BIOS defaults 04. At the main menu verify the BIOS revision is correct 05. Move cursor to the SERVER MANAGEMENT menu and hit Enter 06. Move cursor to the SYSTEM INFORMATION Option and hit Enter 07. Verify the BMC Firmware revision is correct 08. Verify the SDR revision is correct 09. Verify the ME Firmware revision is correct 10. Configure desired BIOS Option settings 11. Hit the F10 Key to Save Changes and Exit *CPLD Firmware version can be verified on BIOS main menu, Main->PFR The System Software Update is Complete. ------------------------------------------------------- *** Warning: *** !!
