UEFI System Update Package (SUP) Installation and Operation Instructions Intel highly recommends reading this document in its entirety before performing the system update. Verifying that your system meets the documented requirements will ensure a successful update and provide the most reliable system functionality after the update has completed. Released September 4, 2024 ******************************************************************************** This update package includes the following production level system software updates and update utilities: System BIOS -R01.02.0002 ME Firmware -06.01.04.047.0 BMC Firmware -2.20 FRU -0.07 CPLD -v3p0 sysfwupdt.efi - Version 16.0.9 --- Supported Products --- Intel(R) Server Board M50FCP Family Contact Intel for production hardware support requirements Important NOTES: - Version R01.02.0002 contains "-recovery" and “UpdateNvram” parameters when online update is performed. The UpdBIOS_FCP.nsh script in this package contains the parameters UpdateNvram and -recovery to update online BIOS (e.g. sysfwupdt.efi -u xxx.bin -recovery UpdateNvram+ImmReset) Caution: This UpdateNvram parameter will update NVRAM region and restore the BIOS to default settings. The -recovery parameter updates the BIOS recovery region and a reboot is required to apply the new BIOS version. - From R01.02.0001 has updated PCH SVN to 03, If a FW downgrade is required refer to the SVN_Bypass Jumper on the BIOS Release Notes on this package. - Add "startup_CAP.nsh" to update CPLD, BMC, FRU, BIOS & BIOS_CAP all at once on one reboot. be aware that because R01.02.0001 supporting Intel(R) 5th Xeon Scalable Family Processor an internal security key would make BIOS CAP file update FAIL during FW update process on one reboot. BIOS R01.01.0005 -> BIOS R01.02.0001 can't update CAP on one reboot. - For R01.01.0005 users who use Redfish or BMC EWS update method, The CPLD and BMC versions included in R005 should be updated to V3P0 in combination with BMC version 1.81 before the first system reset, otherwise, it may cause the system fail to boot up or boot in BMC recovery mode. Please refer to the R01.01.0005 Out of Band (OOB) FW Component Update Installation Guide included in the R01.01.0005 package for more information. Recommend update method: a. Update CPLD V3P0 without resetting the system b. Then update BMC version 1.81 followed by a system reset to apply the CPLD and BMC FW components update. d. Update BIOS 01.01.0005, then reset the system. OnReset (no system reset) options can be set via: - Redfish : it can be set via Redfish command to onReset or immReset - BMC EWS : do not select Reset Immediately check box, it is onReset - sysfwupdt.efi : do not include parameter ImmReset, it is onReset - Virtual KVM over HTML5 feature is now available as part of the Advanced Server Management product key (iPC ADVSYSMGMTKEY). - Options to upload Intel(R) VROC Activation License Key are added to BMC starting from version 1.53. - From version R01.01.0001 "Volatile Memory Mode" default value is changed from 2LM (2LM is removed) to 1LM due to silicon code change, user must add parameter “UpdateNvram” when online update from lower versions to R01.01.0003. The UpdBIOS_FCP.nsh script in this package contains the parameter UpdateNvram to update online BIOS (e.g. sysfwupdt.efi -u xxx.bin UpdateNvram) Caution: This UpdateNvram parameter will update NVRAM region and restore the BIOS to default settings. - If you had previously flashed ITK cap BIOS with specific BIOS settings on a system and then upgrade to current BIOS firmware, those specific BIOS settings will be lost after loading BIOS default pressing on BIOS Menu. In order to avoid this, flash a new ITK cap with the required BIOS settings based on current BIOS firmware image included on this package. - This is production FW package, all updates provided in this package are installed using the embedded uEFI operating environment only. - Do not modify any of the script files. The scripts as written will provide the most reliable update experience. - Added the function to check the FW version on current system, which can make sure whether System BIOS, BMC Firmware, CPLD or FRU data need to be re-installed after the initial update has been performed, the package does include standalone script files that can be run individually. These files include: UpdBIOS_FCP.nsh, UpdFRU_FCP.nsh, UpdCPLD_FCP.nsh, UpdBMC_FCP.nsh, UpdBIOS_FCP_CAP.nsh, UpdBIOS_FCP2.nsh Do NOT use these files until after the system has been updated initially using the startup.nsh file. ******************************************************************************** SYSTEM SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS ******************************************************************************** To update the system software stack to the versions included in this update package, the system software stack currently installed on the target server system MUST meet the following, or else the update may fail: - System BIOS - production version R01.02.0001 or later - BMC Firmware - production version 1.95 or later - CPLD - production version V3P0 or later For hardware and software support requirements, contact Intel for details ******************************************************************************** IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR THE UPDATE PROCEDURE ******************************************************************************** - If you want to flash a custom BIOS file "xxx_CAPSULE_Customized.cap", first flash all FW ingredients including regular BIOS calling the "startup.nsh" and once all the FW has been updated and the server has completed the reboot process, flash the custom BIOS file "xxx_CAPSULE_Customized.cap" calling the "UpdBIOS_FCP_CAP.nsh" script. - To complete update process of CPLD/BMC/FRU/BIOS, must execute the startup.nsh, it will update CPLD/BMC/FRU/BIOS and then the system will reboot automatically. After reset, the screen will be off, and blue ID LED will be solid on for some minutes. Once update process is completed, the ID LED will be off and system will boot up again. After post screen the server will be rebooted a second time to update the BIOS Recovery Region. - Due the new structure of FW using PFR, the first time the server is rebooted once FW has been updated, will take around 13 minutes on the first reboot to conclude the update process, on that time the screen will be off and the System LED will be blinking green/amber, after the first 3 minutes the blue ID LED will be solid on, once the process is completed the ID LED will be off then server will power on automatically, after post screen the server could be rebooted a second time. The time (35+ Minutes) to conclude the FW update process is an expected behavior and only presented on the first reboot part of the FW update process. ******************************************************************************** GENERAL INSTALLATION PROCEDURE ******************************************************************************** 1. Unzip the contents of the update package and copy all files to the root directory of a removable media (USB flash drive) 2. Insert the USB flash drive to any available USB port on the system to be updated 3. Power on the server and boot into uEFI shell 4. Access to the USB flash drive inserted and begin the update process running the Startup.nsh 5. Once BIOS update process has successfully completed, system will reboot automatically and will take around 13 minutes with the screen off and ID Led (Blue light) ON, once the ID and SYSTEM LED are off, the server will power on automatically. 6. After first reboot and post screen, the server will be rebooted a second time to update the BIOS Recovery Region. Verifying Updates: 01. After the final update has completed successfully, reboot the system 02. During POST, hit the Key when prompted to access the BIOS Setup Utility 03. At the main menu verify the BIOS revision is correct 04. Move cursor to the SERVER MANAGEMENT menu and hit Enter 05. Move cursor to the SYSTEM INFORMATION Option and hit Enter 06. Verify the BMC Firmware revision is correct 07. Verify the ME Firmware revision is correct 08. Configure desired BIOS Option settings 09. Hit the F10 Key to Save Changes and Exit *CPLD Firmware version can be verified on BIOS main menu, Main->PFR The System Software Update is Complete. ------------------------------------------------------- *** Warning: *** !!
