Windows and Linux System Update Package (SFUP) Installation and Operation Instructions Intel highly recommends reading this document in its entirety before performing the system update. Verifying that your system meets the documented requirements will ensure a successful update and provide the most reliable system functionality after the update has completed. Released - September 5, 2024 ******************************************************************************** This update package includes the following production-signed package/SW versions and update utility version: System BIOS -R01.02.0002 ME Firmware -06.01.04.047.0 BMC Firmware -2.20 FRU -0.07 CPLD -v3p0 sysfwupdt - Version 16.0.9 --- Supported Products --- ******************************************************************************** IMPORTANT NOTES ******************************************************************************** !! Version R01.02.0002 contains "-recovery" and “UpdateNvram” parameters when online update is performed. The UpdBIOS_FCP.nsh script in this package contains the parameters UpdateNvram and -recovery to update online BIOS (e.g. sysfwupdt.efi -u xxx.bin -recovery UpdateNvram+ImmReset) Caution: This UpdateNvram parameter will update NVRAM region and restore the BIOS to default settings. The -recovery parameter updates the BIOS recovery region and a reboot is required to apply the new BIOS version. !! !! From R01.02.0001 has updated PCH SVN to 03, If a FW downgrade is required refer to the SVN_Bypass Jumper in the BIOS Release Notes on this package!! !! Add "startup_CAP.sh & startup_CAP.bat" to update CPLD, BMC, FRU, BIOS & BIOS_CAP all at once on one reboot. be aware that because R01.02.0001 supporting Intel(R) 5th Xeon Scalable Family Processor an internal security key would make BIOS CAP file update FAIL during FW update process on one reboot. BIOS R01.01.0005 -> BIOS R01.02.0001 can't update CAP on one reboot. !! !! User needs to upgrade BIOS to R01.02.0001 first before upgrading BIOS Customized CAP file due to BIOS CAP internal security key upgrade. * Upgrade BIOS to R01.02.0001 * Reboot system (after that, the new BIOS will take effect and it supports the new key) * Upgrade BIOS Cap file - CAPSULE_Customized_signed.cap !! !! For R01.01.0005 users who use Redfish or BMC EWS update method, The CPLD and BMC versions included in R005 should be updated to V3P0 in combination with BMC version 1.81 before the first system reset, otherwise, it may cause the system fail to boot up or boot in BMC recovery mode. Please refer to the R01.01.0005 Out of Band (OOB) FW Component Update Installation Guide included in the R01.01.0005 package for more information. Recommend update method: a. Update CPLD V3P0 without resetting the system b. Then update BMC version 1.81 followed by a system reset to apply the CPLD and BMC FW components update. d. Update BIOS 01.01.0005, then reset the system. OnReset (no system reset) options can be set via: - Redfish : it can be set via Redfish command to onReset or immReset - BMC EWS : do not select Reset Immediately check box, it is onReset - sysfwupdt.efi : do not include parameter ImmReset, it is onReset !! !! Firmware check is not applicable, hence updates will be triggered even when the versions in the system and in the SFUP package are same !! !! Do NOT interrupt or reboot or remove power from your system during the update process. Doing so may render your system inoperable. !! !! Do NOT attempt to down rev the system software once loaded on to the system. Doing so may render your system inoperable. !! !! All updates provided in this package are installed using the windows and Linux operating environment only. !! !! Do not modify any of the script files. The scripts as written will provide the most reliable update experience. !! !! Refer to the userguide which is available in sysfwupdt folder for any update sceanrios or sysfwupdt commands. !! !! Customized_signed ".cap" file need to be customized else ".cap file" update will fail !! ******************************************************************************** SUPPORTED PRODUCTS ******************************************************************************** Intel(R) Server Board M50FCP Family. The update order is CPLD, BMC, FRUSDR and BIOS followed by a system reset. - Once the Windows and Linux startup script completes the update of CPLD/BMC/FRU/BIOS, the system will reboot automatically, on that time the screen will be off and blue ID LED will be solid on, once the process is completed the ID LED will be off and system will turn on again. After post screen the server will be rebooted a second time to update the BIOS Recovery Region. - Due the new structure of FW using PFR, the first time the server is rebooted once FW has been updated, will take around 13 minutes on the first reboot to conclude the update process, on that time the screen will be off and the System LED will be blinking green/amber, after the first 3 minutes the blue ID LED will be solid on, once the process is completed the ID LED will be off then server will power on automatically, after post screen the server could be rebooted a second time. - The time (35+ Minutes) to conclude the FW update process is an expected behavior and only presented on the first reboot part of the FW update process. ******************************************************************************** GENERAL INSTALLATION PROCEDURE ******************************************************************************** 1.
